Q&A: Speedwaxing

Summertime is here and getting your waxing done is on the list of things to do! Today, we are answering questions about a waxing technique called speedwaxing. This technique is fast and efficient! Here at Urban Skin Care we love speedwaxing and have perfected & honed our skills to be able to deliver a quality waxing that quickly removes the hair.

What is speedwaxing and how is it different?

Speedwaxing is a fast and efficient way of hair removal using a strip wax. Wax is placed on a larger area, and then hair is removed with a smaller amount of strips. It’s much quicker than a regular waxing.

What kind of wax is used?

A strip wax is the best for this type of waxing. Find the wax that works best for you. We usually use a soft wax.

What are the benefits to speedwaxing?

Speedwaxing is great for the client who wants to be in and out of their waxing treatment. It can cut a waxing session in half. Not only is it fast, but it will pick up hairs quicker and usually pick up some ingrown hairs as well.

What to look for in a speedwaxer (an esthetician who does speedwaxing)?

When you’re looking for a speedwaxer you want someone who has a reputation already for being fast. Referral is always best, not everyone has this unique technique down. A speedwaxer should be able to do a full body wax (full leg, Brazilian, arms, underarm, and brows) in 1 hour and a Brazilian wax under 10 min. Never overstep quality over speed. Very few Estheticians have the skill to deliver speed and quality at the same time. Chose wisely!Usually you’ll be able to tell within the first few times the esthetician applies the wax on you whether or not he or she is fast.

Our mado is…”You are going to feel the wax, but the faster the waxer the better.”

What to expect when getting a speedwax?

A lot of wax, quick movement… hold on tight and you’ll be done! Expect it to be quick but there will be a little discomfort. The esthetician will apply wax on a large area and usually use the same strip to remove all the wax and hair.

Why you chose to do speedwaxing?

When I first started waxing I did it for myself. At times it would take over an hour to do just my legs. I would make it my Friday night ritual. My husband new it would be a while before he saw me. I would lay down the towels, heat the wax, and watch my favorite show. Through perseverance and countless hours, I honed my skill and perfected my style of speedwaxing.

It’s much more efficient and great to do on a lunch break.

Tips to make your wax last… before, during and after.

Before you go in for a wax it is nice to exfoliate your legs with loofah mitts or a body scrub. This will get the dead skin off and help any ingrown hairs to come up. You always want to make sure your hair is at least 1/8 of an inch (the longer the better we can always trim the hair).  Don’t put any lotion on the body before waxing the hairs are removed better without any oils on the skin.

Don’t shave after your waxing, you can always come in for touch ups if needed. Don’t forget to schedule your appointments every 3-5 weeks depending on how much and how quick your hair grows. Keep your skin moisturized and hydrated. After your waxing your skin many feel like a slight sun burn. Keep the area clean, no exercise after a wax or sun exposure for at least 24 hours.
